Dinagat Islands, long hailed as a cooperative stronghold in the Caraga region, reaffirmed its reputation during the 7th Provincial Cooperative Congress held in San Jose on Sept. 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the theme \u201cCooperatives: Pioneering Change through Innovation and Sustainability,\u201d the event drew over 300 cooperative leaders, members, and stakeholders from across the province. The congress showcased the transformative power of cooperatives in uplifting local communities and driving inclusive economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. lauded the sector\u2019s resilience and impact, noting that Dinagat Islands now boasts 92 registered cooperatives with a combined asset base of \u20b11.2 billion. \u201cCooperatives are not just economic engines\u2014they are social institutions that empower our people,\u201d Demerey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event featured keynote addresses from officials of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), including Assistant Secretary Abad L. Santos and CDA Region XIII Director Florencio C. Sunico Jr., who emphasized the importance of digital innovation and sustainability in cooperative operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participants engaged in breakout sessions on topics such as climate-smart agriculture, financial literacy, and digital transformation. Success stories from local cooperatives\u2014including those in fisheries, transport, and consumer services\u2014highlighted how grassroots collaboration continues to thrive despite economic challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The congress also honored outstanding cooperatives and leaders who have demonstrated excellence in governance, community service, and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Dinagat Islands continues to build its cooperative ecosystem, stakeholders expressed optimism that the province will serve as a model for inclusive development nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
