Mati City Kicks Off 2025 Cooperative Month Celebration

Local leaders and cooperatives unite to promote shared prosperity

MATI CITY — With cheers, music and movement, Mati City officially launched its 2025 Cooperative Month celebration on Oct. 1, rallying behind the theme: “Cooperatives United in Purpose and Action, Sharing Prosperity to Build a Better World.”

The festivities began with a spirited fun walk around the city, led by the Drum and Bugle Band of Mati National High School. Participants capped off the morning with an energizing Zumba session at the Barangay Sainz gymnasium, setting the tone for a month of unity and celebration.

The kick-off ceremony drew a strong lineup of city officials, including Councilors Jerome C. Dayanghirang, Edgar T. Valera, and Raul M. Antopuesto—Chairman of the Committee on Cooperatives—alongside Vice Mayor Lorenzo Leon G. Rabat and Mayor Joel Mayo Z. Almario, who served as guest of honor.

During the program, Councilor Antopuesto announced the approval of the cooperative budget, endorsed by his committee and approved by Mayor Almario. The announcement marked a significant step in supporting the city’s cooperative sector.

In his keynote address, Mayor Almario reaffirmed his commitment to work closely with the Cooperative Development Council of Davao City (CCDC), the Cooperative Development Office (CCDO), and local cooperatives. He also shared plans to recognize outstanding cooperatives through an awards program, aiming to inspire continued excellence.

Vice Mayor Rabat backed the initiative and pledged to coordinate with the Cooperative Development Authority Region XI to establish guidelines for the “Gawad Parangal” awards.

The event highlighted the spirit of cooperation and community, with participants showcasing their enthusiasm through cheers and team presentations. Attendees left with smiles, prizes and a renewed sense of purpose, looking forward to the rest of the month’s activities.
