The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) recently underscored the importance of communication in cooperative leadership, drawing inspiration from John Maxwell’s 16 Laws of Communication. This was highlighted during the Asian Credit Union Forum held in Bangkok, Thailand, where cooperative leaders from across the region gathered to exchange insights on strengthening organizations through effective communication.
At the Bangkok forum, CDA emphasized that communication is more than a leadership skill — it is the foundation of influence, trust, and unity within cooperatives. Leaders who communicate with clarity and authenticity are better able to connect with members, resolve conflicts, and inspire active participation.
By practicing Maxwell’s principles, cooperative leaders can ensure that their vision resonates with members and that decisions are made inclusively. The discussions pointed to the importance of connecting before influencing, keeping messages simple and clear, being genuine to build trust, and maintaining consistency to strengthen credibility.
Through this international exchange, CDA encouraged cooperative leaders in the Philippines to embrace these communication laws as part of their leadership journey. The agency believes that effective communication is not just about speaking well, but about fostering genuine relationships that empower members and sustain long-term growth.
By embedding these principles into cooperative governance, leaders can transform their organizations into stronger, more resilient communities that truly serve the people they represent.
